Adopting for Life

I am so excited!!!! Many of you know that my husband and I are currently in the process of adopting (Our Adoption Story – Part 1). We are adopting from foster care and are currently waiting to be matched. I am very passionate about adopting, and have talked many times about adoption, and reviewed a great book about adoption last year.

Well, Michael and I are at an adoption conference with a few other couples from our church this weekend. So, I thought that I would tell you guys about it too!!!

The overall goal of this conference was:

To promote a Biblical perspective on adoption, educating prospective adoptive parents, encouraging parents that have already adopted, and influencing church leaders to support adoption.

I was very excited to see God at work this weekend for adoption and truly I hope that if you have never thought about adoption, that you would read this book for all Christians

Adoption is not just about couples who want children – or who want more children. Adoption is about an entire culture within our churches, a culture that sees adoption as part of our Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself.” -pg. 19

Family Feasts for $75 a Week

Family Feasts for $75 a Week is a GREAT resource written by fellow blogger Mary Ostyn with tips and recipes that will help save almost anyone money on their food bill.

As a side note, upon seeing this book my husband loved the design of the front cover. P.S. I did too!!!

I loved reading through this book and very much took my time to soak in all the information that this mom of 10 has to share! I really think that even the seasoned money saving women will find at least one new way to save money. I personally, found many, many tips.

I loved the recipes in this book and found a good 15 recipes that I am personally going to try.

Mary Ostyn has a new book out titled A Sane Woman’s Guide to Raising a Large Family, which I would also love to read (Since Michael and I aspire to be parents of a large family).

Show and Tell

This is a time that I share links to good finds I’ve read on the Internet. Enjoy!!!

Are you and your husband still holding hands today.

Mary gave birth to Jesus, but is still just as guilty as we are.

The gospel and me, the sinner!

What are we dressing our girls to look like?

Your husband wants more than love! Do you know what he needs?

There are some things that you just don’t need when you have a baby.

The Time Consuming Habit of Blogging

The past week or so I have seen quite a few blogging friends write on this topic. So, I thought that I would join in.

Blogging takes work. Also, a lot of things attached with blogging takes work. Most people cannot do it all, and do it well. Unless, they learn to manage their goals and priorities correctly.

(Ladies, I am talking to myself below, if this applies to you as well, then that is a bonus)

This is truly a balancing act that is DIFFICULT to conquer, and it is one that I am constantly working on,  e v e r y   d a y. It is impossible to think that a christian, wife, homemaker, mother, friend, daughter, sister, etc… can fulfill all of those wonderful roles well, and also be an excellent blogger and maintain an online presence.

So, where does the balancing come in? You manage your priorities. You have to know what comes first, and manage your tasks according to your priorities.

For example, as Christians, we know the importance of being in God’s Word and spending time in prayer. Do we accomplish these tasks before we blog? Do we wait to even turn on the computer until we have spent time in His presence? Ladies, this is what we need to do! I need to do this…but, there are times when I fail, and the lure of the computer gets to me.

This is why we need to keep our priorities in the front of our minds and pay very close attention to them. We are first called to be Christ-followers, wives, mothers, homemakers, before we are to be bloggers. We need to remember that.

Everything we do involves consuming time, we just need to keep track of where we are spending out time and make sure that the majority of our time is spent of things that come first.

Although, we are doing wonderful things through our blogs, we need to keep in mind that we have a husband, and we have a house, and some of us have children, and they need to come first.

We need to submit our goals and priorities to God, and follow His will. It is a wonderful thing to be involved in blogging and serve God in this manner (I personally love it), however, we need to maintain a balance.

Like I said earlier, really this post is me writing to me. This is something that I am working on balancing and feel like it is very possible to balance it, if we try hard and keep first things first.

What’s On Your Nightstand?

What’s On Your Nightstand? is a monthly meme on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 5 Minutes for Books.

There are several different ways to participate (Click here to learn more about that). I am going to participate each month by sharing what books I have read and written a review for in the last month and what books I would like to read in the next month.

In addition to the following list, I also have a master list of books I have read in 2010. I challenged myself to read 60 books (I’m starting slow, hopefully I can get back to reading quicker)! I update the master list regularly with reviews of the books I have read, you can check that out here.

Books I Have Read since January 26th:

Sacred Marriage

This book isn’t your typical marriage book! It doesn’t focus on all the practical stuff as much as it does the spiritual stuff (The important stuff!). For example, the book’s tagline is, “What If God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy.” And that is truly what this book is all about, how marriage can be a tool that God uses to make us more holy.

Choosing Forgiveness

WOW! It is not that often that a book really challenges me like this book did…In a good way, though! Forgiveness is such a HUGE topic.

Mirror Mirror…Am I Beautiful?

This is a great book for any young woman who might be struggling with body image, or modesty, or purity. I would definitely recommend it as a starting place!

Embracing Your Freedom

Above all else, this book has offered me the challenge to not just sit and here this devastating news, but TO ACT! Not, to just sit and live my life in my “bubble,” but to be a part of the solution, and fight for the freedom of those all around the world, physical and spiritual.
