The Marriage Project

I think that we can all agree that marriage is hard, and it takes work and being intentional daily. However, I think that we can also agree that the work is worth it, ten fold (if not more)!

I was very happy to receive a copy of The Marriage Project, thanks to Kathi Lipp, to read and review. I have heard great things about her first book, The Husband Project, and was looking forward to reading her newer one, this one.

Kathi starts off by sharing her story about being in her second marriage. I have found that often times, when Christians are in their second marriage, God is really working in their heart and creating a passion for marriage. I have seen this is the lives of many couples at my church, and now in Kathi’s testimony too!

“We determined that if we wanted to make this marriage work, we had to be intentional in everything we did. We would be intentional about inviting God into our marriage each day. We would be intentional about our time spent together and the conversations we shared. We would be intentional about supporting each other and looking for good in each other, instead of constantly recognizing what was driving us nuts” (pg. 26-27).

The whole idea of the book is to do simple proactive tasks daily, to make a more loving marriage. I’ve talked before about the little things, and I truly believe it! The little things make a big (HUGE!) impact.

My husband and I read through The Marriage Project together, it is designed to read through together but you could also read through it alone.

Honestly, I didn’t realize how little I thought about our marriage during the day. Through reading the book, I loved having daily reminders to do something to cultivate love in my marriage. Some ideas were to text your husband just to say you love him, give him a massage, let him control the remote, eat by candlelight, etc…

Since reading the book, I have tried to still act intentionally daily and find a way to let my husband know that I am thinking of him and hold love for him in my heart!

I would definitely recommend this book for Christian couples! And, honestly, the daily tasks are more practical, instead of spiritual, so this could also be a great way to engage couples who don’t know Christ.

Thanks to Kathi Lipp for sending me a copy of this book to review. Kathi has a great blog where she shares ideas for cultivating your marriage, make sure to visit it for tips and ideas!
