Top 10 Bible Verses to Hide In Your Heart {while you wait}

Top Ten {Tuesday} Today I am joining in on Top Ten Tuesday.

While I’m discussing waiting all this month, I thought it would be good to share the top ten verses that I have personally found to be encouraging and good to have in my heart and mind when I have struggled with all this waiting.

Note: These verses are in no particular order.

  1.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
  2. But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 ESV)
  3. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV)
  4. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 ESV)
  5. When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17 ESV)
  6. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 ESV)
  7. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 ESV)
  8. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4 ESV)
  9. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV)
  10. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 ESV)

And here’s an extra verse. What I cling to as my life verse.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV)

  • Love them all!

Philippians 4:6-7 is a special one to my daughter as she is somewhat fearful and needs reminding to turn to God. And I love Matthew 11:28 b/c it’s actually Jesus talking, “I will give you rest!” What a promise!

  • Love this list and that you are talking about waiting all month! The verse I clung to as I walked through infertility was Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the holy spirit.” My daughter’s name is Hope because of how this verse carried us through as we waited for her life to come.

    Thanks for sharing your heart!

  • These are absolutely fantastic verses, Ashley! Hebrews 11:1 is literally the first verse I memorized. And 1 Peter 5:6-7 are big verses for my life (and the focus verses for my blog!). I love pretty much all of Philippians, too.

I’ve been clinging to Ephesians 3:20-21 through some trials we’re enduring as of late.

Thanks for sharing these verses today!

    • Yes, yes, yes! I love that verse in Ephesians. God is able to do far more abundantly than we ask or think! More than we think!!!

I find that to be so encouraging. I mean, I have pretty good dreams about my future…the reality is that God can do far better than what I have imagined! How glorious and amazing is the God we serve!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  • Love these verses. Thanks so much for sharing. It is so hard to wait, but knowing there is a plan makes it a little easier.
