Ok, I’ve set us up good. A brief overview and my experience with waiting. Now, let’s get into the really good stuff!
Why must we wait?
As I ponder this question myself, while I’ve been waiting for much time. I have come up with two reasons why we must wait in this life for various situations. These reasons apply to each and every season of wait that we experience.
1. Waiting forces us to trust in Him more than our plans.
If we never had to wait for anything, we would be very self-reliant people (even more than we are already!). However, this is what our culture is proud of and seeks out. We want what we want when we want it. We want it our way. This is a theme in our culture fulfilled by fast food restaurants and stores stocked with products in various sizes, styles, colors, shapes, etc… It seems that everything around us is catering to our selfish ambitions and desires while allowing us to live not needing to rely on others.
However, our seasons of waiting forces us to realize that God has plans for us, those plans are not always the same as our plans, and we can trust Him in that all the more!
2. Waiting paints a picture of our anticipating Christ’s return.
This is not our home. Christ will return one day. The waiting that we experience day to day, seems so trivial when we reflect on our waiting for our King. I don’t say this to dimish the pain that we experience while we wait. But to help you see the stricking imagery.
While we wait for the things of this world, we are ultimately waiting for Christ’s return. Each season of waiting can remind us all the more that we are ultimately waiting for Him, each and every day.
The waiting may be hard. Believe me! However, there are reasons, as a Christian, that we must wait. This waiting produces a product, and that product is us, more Christ-like.
Question for you:
Can you think of other foundational reasons why we must wait? If so, please share them below.

Waiting always bring to mind one of my favorite songs, “While I’m Waiting” by John Waller.
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it’s not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve you while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting on You, Lord
Waiting brings us back to the Throne Room.
I LOVE that song!!! Thanks for sharing Cherie!
For me, waiting has produced perspective and gratitude I would not have otherwise possessed. I’ve come to realize God is all that I need, and nothing that I have is because I deserve it, but because of His grace and blessings poured into my life. I need waiting, as painful as it is for me during the season, to fully appreciate the results when they are fulfilled in ways I didn’t think they could happen.
That is a beautiful perspective!
Thank you so much for sharing Kelly!
Hi Ashley,
Thank you so much for this series. I’ve just come to your blog and I’m definately going to be following it – it seems like God brought me here this morning. I definately need it. I’m waiting, but my waiting seems silly compared to some other woman on this blog, so I won’t say how long! Let’s just say, I’ve needed both the conviction and the encouragement. Thank you, for your honesty and care.
God bless!
I’m glad you stopped by and God led you here today Sarah!
All waiting, no matter whether minutes, hours, days, months, or years, is hard! I hope that you find encouragement for however you find yourself waiting today!
p.s. I hope to see you again!
Ashley,
I love your blog and really need this 31 days of waiting. Thank you for how you are letting God use you!
Thanks for stopping by Becca, you are an encourager!
[...] Why Must We Wait? [...]
We wait because we are in the midst of becoming something and it takes time. We wait because other people in our lives need time to become what God wants them to be and we are not all on the same schedule. We wait because God showed us through the lives of the patriarchs that waiting is the way of faith.
Thanks for taking time to write these posts. I’m glad I found your blog. =)
Thanks for stopping by Amy!
