Practical Suggestions :: Putting God First Place

Pondering this today…

“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

What matters most to you today?

Are you willing to let the small things go so that you can focus on what is most important?

I’ve Been Doing Something…

and it’s allowed me to be…

more happy.

less stressed.

hanging out with the hubster (lol..my husband).

keeping my house clean.

starting my day in the Word.

planning and dreaming with a couple of friends.

building community.

So, you wanna know what that something is that I’ve been doing?

It’s really not a secret.

I’ve been reordering my life!

It all started one night at my SWI class. The topic was time management. I knew that I wasn’t doing well with this, but oh boy! I didn’t realize how badly I had let my priorities get out of order. I was focusing on things that weren’t important and letting the important things slip to the side, left undone.

During class, I had my eyes opened. God used Mrs. Jodi Ware to speak to my heart and let me see where I was falling short.

Instead of thinking how am I going to use my time. I needed to start thinking more like how does God want me to use my time.

Since then I have been fighting idleness, ordering my priorities, developing habits, and setting goals{I’ve shared each step on At the Well for our weekly projects}

Guess What?

I have noticed BIG differences! As you can tell from above, many of the things I want out of life, I have been getting! Even some things that I have been wanting to do (like dreaming…).

Once I started to prayerfully consider my current roles in life and what my priorities are within those roles. I started planning habits that reflected those priorities and roles.

Doing these tasks, I have noticed the major change has been in my heart and mind.

Now I am not living aimlessly thorough life, I am on the journey of living intentionally!

Intentionality is a mindset, it doesn’t come naturally. We must cultivate this spirit in our minds and heart. We must decide not to let the world or the demands that come in front of us control our life. Instead we control our life by the leading of the Spirit and by our ordering our life by our priorities.

I am still learning, but I already see the fruit of my labor.

Reshaping It All and A New Healthy Start

Recently I shared on twitter about a challenge that my husband and I are doing together. Between the two of us, we want to lose 30 pounds before 2012.

We are always talking about losing weight and exercising more and being more intentional about living a healthier lifestyle. However, I seldom do anything about it. Especially since we are hoping to have children soon, I want to set a better example. I want to be able to run around and have fun with them without my extra pounds interferring.

I love the Money Saving Mom blog. Lately Crystal has been sharing weekly goals (and also tips for efficiency and success in getting things done). She takes her BIG goals (whether yearly or monthly goals) and breaks them into small bite size pieces, her weekly goals, to accomplish the goal.

I have started doing this too, and I am so happy with the accomplishments and progress I’ve been making. I have goals, like read more, exercise more, write a certain number of articles to submit to other platforms, and other goals. However, if I never do anything other than say the goal, nothing will happen!

I must be more intentional and SMART if I want to make progress in certain areas of my life.

In the midst of all this goal setting and aiming to live a healthier life, I read the book Reshaping It All.

This book was just what I needed to kick start my new healthy start. The book is written by Candace Cameron Bure (yepp…DJ from Full House) and Darlene Schacht.

Reshaping It All not only contains inspirational words, recipes, good memory verses, and biblical guidance…it also contains personal stories from Candace’s life and struggles with food.

I love books that read like a conversation. It makes the book more enjoyable and harder to put down! This is definitely one of those books!

I have some other books that I am planning on reading to encourage me to continue making healthier choices. However, I really found this one to be encouraging and a great place to start!

With my new weekly goals, along with ongoing encouragement through books and my husband, I have been exercising more! I am trying to focus on food being for fuel not for entertainment or reward or what I go to when I feel sad, or angry, or lonely.

Overall, I am trying to create a different lifestyle. A healthier one.

Got any tips to share with me about how you make healthy choices in the midst of everyday life? Please share!

Must Do Project!

I love this project I’m hosting over At the Well.

This week’s project is:

to enrich the spiritual lives of military personnel by writing a note to be transcribed into a free Bible and handed out!

Join me in this project this week as we seek to spread the gospel and love of God to our military!

Good Meal to Bless Others

Yesterday’s Fixing Your Heart on Titus 2 project was to feed someone who is hungry. Today At the Well, we are sharing good recipes to use when blessing someone with a meal.

I love to do this! Either by inviting someone to our house or taking a meal to theirs! Here is my go to recipe:

Glorified Potato Soup

Serves about 4 people

Ingredients
2-3 cups cubed potatoes (skins on, if desired)
1 cup water
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 chopped carrot
1/3 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
2 cups chopped broccoli and/or cauliflower
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 lb. Velveeta (or similar) pasteurized prepared cheese product, cut into cubes
1 tsp. chopped fresh parsley
Parmesan cheese

Directions
1. In a large pot with a lid, combine potatoes, water, celery, carrot, onion, and bell pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add broccoli and simmer for about 5-10 more minutes, or until vegetables are tender.
2. Add milk and heat thoroughly, stirring occasionally. Stir in cheese and cook over a low heat until cheese is melted. Do not boil or cheese will start to burn.
3. Stir in parsley and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
4. Serve and enjoy!
