Prayers for My Soon-to-Be Children

Note: Congrats to Karen, Mary Alice Kelly, Mrs. Cline, Sarah, and Sandy for winning the Fixx My Lipz giveaway (You should have received an e-mail from me)!

Last week At the Well, we were praying for our children. It reminded me that I have been wanting to post for a while my prayers for my soon-to-be children.

See, my husband and I are adopting from foster care this year, hopefully (We are currently in the process). We will be adopting up to three children under the age of eight.

I think about my children all the time. And I lift them up in prayers often. Here are some of my prayers for them:

I pray that they would be warm when the snow is falling down.

I pray that their tummies would be filled with food when they are hungry.

I pray that God would keep them safe while they are waiting for us.

I pray that God would bring us together soon.

I pray that God would be preparing my heart to become a mother.

I pray that God would lead us to a home that will meet our needs (We are hoping to move in April)

I pray that they will know and love and honor and serve the One and True God.

I pray that they will accept the changes in their life and accept us as their parents.

I pray that they will respect and honor Michael and I as their parents.

I pray that the transition into our home will be smooth.

I pray that they will quickly become members of our family, legally.

Praying for My Husband

All this week with many other women, I have been praying for my husband. I have been intentional about setting aside time to lift him up to the Lord.

How has this affected me?

I am more compassionate toward him.
I have more loving thoughts about him.
I am thinking more about him.

This has been a great project this week!!!

*Remember every Monday on At the Well, you will find me as I share projects to Fix Your Heart on Titus 2!

Gathered Together

This morning I found an awesome feature that I just couldn’t help but share. Andrea at Under Grace and Over Coffee has what she calls Gathered Together, I think that this weekend is actually the first instance of this great feature. How exciting!!!

The purpose of Gathered Together is for us to come together as a community and pray for one another. There is space for people to share their prayer requests, and praises! And then others can read these requests and lift up prayers.

I absolutely love this!

So, from now on, every weekend I will be praying over at Under Grace and Over Coffee. Click on the picture to join me this weekend….

Prayer in the New Year

As the new year was approaching, I had been thinking about what I would like to enhance in my walk with the Lord during 2010. I came to the conclusion that one thing I would like to focus more on this year is my personal prayer life.

I have written before about prayer in marriage and how important is it. But, honestly, if I could describe my current personal prayer life, I would say roller coaster…I have times when my prayer life is strong and I feel like I am walking in alignment with Christ, and then at other times I feel like it is not so great.

Hopefully by the end of 2010 that description will change. Here are the steps I am going to take to strengthen my personal prayer life this year:

  • Start a prayer journal where I can record my prayers and praises
  • Set a time daily to be still and pray
  • Use some of my favorite verses, turn them into prayers, and memorize them

These 3 steps are just the beginning of what I hope will be a strong year, in prayer!

This is a post I wrote for At the Well. All month long At the Well, the contributors will be sharing their spiritual goals for the upcoming year. You can also join in here and share your own resolutions!

Some thoughts on Prayer

Prayer is not an emergency measure that we turn to when we have a problem. Real prayer is a part of our constant communion with God and worship of God.”
-Warren Wiersbe

Prayer is such a powerful tool! Our way to communicate with the Almighty God and Creator of the Universe. What an amazing thought! The same God that created everything, is the same God that I talk to daily…

However, my priorities are not always correct. There have been days when everything is going wrong…EVERYTHING! And I sit down and think, and in that moment, I realize that I didn’t start my day with prayer. No wonder things are going wrong. My focus is on me, my to do list, my desires, me, me, me…

Prayer is not something that we do when we are struggling and need His presence more clearly in our lives. Yes, prayer is good for that. But, prayer can be so much more! Prayer can be our way of meeting with God, getting encouragement and inspiration, getting strength for the day, focusing our day where it should be, on Christ!

Have you had time in prayer today? If not, why wait?
